The riders in the peloton needed all the strength in their legs to ascend the 2115m high Col du Tourmalet, the highest paved mountain pass in the French Pyrenees, on stage eight of the 2016 Tour de France. At least the riders knew that once over the top, gravity could take over, as Chris Froome demonstrated to good effect as he zoomed to a stage victory.
